Lesson · Perplexity × Marketing copy

Perplexity in a marketing copy

Why three competing landing pages all sound the same — and the one editing pass that makes yours actually readable.

PerplexityMarketing copyWritten by the desk

Predictability is the surface signal of an AI-written landing page: the openers are the same, the verbs are the same, the structure is the same. "Unlock the power of…", "Discover how our…", "Transform your business with…". The reader's eye skips the whole section without registering a word.

The cliché openers to cut first

  • Unlock — "Unlock new possibilities", "Unlock your team's potential". Cut the verb; rewrite the sentence.
  • Discover — "Discover how", "Discover the power of". Replace with a direct claim.
  • Transform — "Transform your workflow", "Transform the way you work". State what specifically changes.
  • Elevate — "Elevate your business", "Elevate your experience". State what gets better and by how much.
  • Leverage — usually as a verb. Replace with "use", which is what it means.

What higher-perplexity copy looks like

Less predictable copy doesn't have to be clever. It has to be specific. "Our customers send 600 million emails a month with us" is a sentence a model could not have predicted from the genre, because it's grounded in a fact about your particular business. That single specificity carries more weight than five generic adjectives.

After

We replaced four spreadsheets and a Notion page for the average new customer in 2024. That's the entire pitch: less stuff to keep in your head, the same picture of where things stand. Try it free for the first month, no card.

The second version doesn't use a single AI opener verb. The reader still knows what the product does and what to do next.
